The so called "great escape" season.  By the 17th March, Wednesday had managed just 6 wins from 32 matches and with 10 matches to go were rooted to the bottom of the league, 7 points behind the nearest team and looking doomed to relegation.  Remarkably they won 7 of the remaining matches, drawing the other 3 and actually finished 14th in the league, although they only had one point more than Tottenham Hotspur, who were relegated alongside Middlesbrough.  Wednesday then went on to win the Football League Championship in the following two seasons!
