In probably the worst season in Wednesday's history they are relegated to the 3rd Division (Tier 3) for the first time.  With only five wins all season and just 29 goals, Wednesday finish rock bottom, 14 points behind the 19th placed team.  Wednesday finish the season with just three draws and no wins from their last seventeen matches, scoring just two goals in the process.  Probably the final straw was selling Tommy Craig just before Christmas, after which Wednesday won only one further match.

Remarkably manager Steve Burtenshaw isn't sacked, but survives another eight matches the following season, when he is finally axed.  With just 14 wins in his 71 matches, Burtenshaw is surely the worst wednesday manager ever.

Just to rub it in further, Wednesday are dumped out of the EFL Cup by 4th Division Scunthorpe United at The Old Show Ground.
